"Backstage"
With the Christmas season upon us, I can't help but be reminded of my Grandmother whenever I hear about the charm and joy of another production of "The Nutcracker". Both her and my mother exposed me to the ballet at a very young age and I've often painted dancers as I'm mesmerized by the elegance, grace and beauty of the ballet. My daughter, also a ballet dancer, took my granddaughter to The Nutcracker last night and the mere mention of it, along with the hypnotic compositions of Tchaikovsky, always takes me back to a magical time in my life as a child. I also had the opportunity to attend a performance of Swan Lake in Russia which was an incredible experience and the fulfilment of life long dream. These were the inspiration behind this painting.
